Type Talk

For this task we were asked to translate a script into some typography design. There are a few rules we needed to follow such as, only using our own typefaces that we all created with the added use of Helvetica and Baskerville, only allowed to use one colour and can only use very limited drawn elements, and grids must be used when laying out our pages. To me the most important thing I wanted to convey here was each characters voice and personality through the chosen typefaces.

Below are some quick rough sketches I had done to experiment and get a feel for how I wanted to layout the pages, as well as taking some lines from the friends script and experimenting with how I could lay some of them out.

Title Experimentation.

Here I had just been playing around with some possible front cover layouts. I decided that I would choose the friends script because I found that all the characters from friends have their own unique personality and it will be fun to convey these contrasting characters through type.

Then I had gone and done a more in-depth walkthrough of the script and how I would lay out each page. I did this shitty before and then I will go onto indesign and use grids to layout my pages.

Once I was happy with the rough layout I needed to decide which typefaces I would use, and which characters I would assign each typeface too.

Below are the typefaces I have chosen and assigned to each character.

Here I had gone onto indesign and started laying it out digitally using a 7 column grid.

Following a feedback session I had gone and made some changes to my script which are shown below.
