Ampersand

The first part of this task we were asked to collect 5 different ampersands which we liked and include a little information about the typeface itself and why we were drawn to each typeface.

1- This first typeface is Georgia Bold Italic. It's a serif font which was designed by Matthew Carter in 1993 for Microsoft. It was designed to be elegant but still legible when it was used for copy on lower resolution screens or on small printed documents.

2- This ampersand is from the typeface ITC Benguiat pro in the weight book condensed, This is a decorative serif typeface which was designed by Ed Benguiat in 1977. It's based on some typefaces of the art nouveau movement. Its most commonly recognised now as the typeface used for the tv show 'Stranger Things'.

3- This next ampersand is from the family Pilowlava. This is a newer display typeface designed by Anton Moglia and Jeremy Landes. It was published on the 26th April 2019. It was named after the caverns of space found in lava flows which is represented In the typeface.

4- This ampersand is part of the Bebas Neue typeface. its a sans serif typeface based on the Original Bebas Neue designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa. I really like this ampersand as it has a very uniform look to it which I like.

5- This ampersand is from the typeface Fallen Bishop. This is a display font created by MHM Studio. This ampersand really stood out too me because it has a very unique look too it, it almost resembles a snake which I thought looked very interesting.

6- This is the ampersand from the typeface Ivy Presto Display. This was designed by Jan Maack who runs a small independent type foundry in Denmark called The Ivy Foundry.

7- This typeface is Neue World and was designed by Mat Desjardins. This typeface was inspired by vintage display typefaces. The soft curves and refined detail nice it an elegant representation of a modern serif.

8- This ampersand is from the Trajan typeface which was designed by Carol Twombly in 1989 for adobe to use. The design is based of the letterforms of capitalis monumentalis used for the inscription at the base of Trajan's Column from which the typeface takes its name.

Then we were asked to create our own ampersands that related to different themes.
This was my first ampersand I created. I used the theme of Park and Garden for this one. As I went into my garden and carved it into the snow on the floor.

I had done 2 different versions, a serif and a sans-serif.

I had used the theme of Christmas for this ampersand. I had got out some Christmas tree lights and arranged it to look like an ampersand. I had done one where it was very clean and simple. Then another which showed the messy lights to give it more character.

I based this next ampersand on Garamond Italic and I had used the theme Bathroom. So I had decided to use toothpaste to create my ampersand. So I got some black paper and squeezed the toothpaste overt my outline of the ampersand.

For this last ampersand I chose the theme Technology. So I grabbed a ton of tech stuff I found in my room and created an ampersand from it. Using wires, cables, controllers and remotes to help me create the ampersand but also making sure that It still resembles an ampersand.
